SAN JUAN CHESS CLUB
Masterclass:
GM Luka Budisavljević
Saturday, June 13, 2026 • Casa del Ajedrez, San Juan, Puerto Rico 5 Hours of Lectures • Level: 1400–2000 Elo
"The French is not a defense — it is a weapon."
About the Masterclass
The San Juan Chess Club presents a five-hour masterclass on Pawn Structure in the French Defense, led by Grandmaster Luka Budisavljević. This is a unique opportunity to study one of chess's most strategically rich openings under the guidance of an elite-level GM and the only resident Grandmaster in Puerto Rico.
The French Defense is one of Black's most solid and combative responses to 1.e4, characterized by complex pawn structures that define the plans for both sides across the opening, middlegame, and endgame. This session focuses on developing a deep structural understanding of the French — not memorizing moves, but truly grasping the logic behind them.
Designed for players rated between 1400 and 2000 Elo who wish to sharpen their positional understanding and expand their opening repertoire.
